Tomorrow’s the day — and yes, we’ll stop saying weird stuff in interviews

Hi Reader,

Tomorrow’s the day!
Trust Yourself Table Talk goes live Wednesday at 4:00 pm PT / 7:00 pm ET, and I wanted to pop in with a little pre-event pep talk.

I asked a few clients how they used to answer:
“So… tell me about yourself.”

Here were some of the replies:

👉 “I grew up in Ohio and I really love cheese.”
👉 “Um… well… I have a cat named Olive – does that count?”
👉 “Honestly? I panic and start listing every job I’ve ever had since 1998.”

We’ve all done it — blurted out random facts, rambled our resumes, or said something so quirky we immediately regret it.

But once you learn how to shape your story toward what your listener actually needs to hear… everything changes.

👉 You sound confident.
👉 You sound clear.
👉 You stop starting with the cheese.

Join us tomorrow and I’ll walk you through:
- Two simple formulas to tell your story (without sounding rehearsed)
- How to weave in your strengths so people remember you
- Live practice in a friendly group
- Real-time feedback so you feel ready — not panicked

Event Details:
📅 Tomorrow — Wed, August 20
🕓 4:00 pm PT / 7:00 pm ET
💻 Free on Zoom — recording provided

Show up as you are — you don’t need the “perfect” answer yet. This is where we practice so the next time someone asks… you shine.

See you tomorrow,
Becky

P.S. Even if you’re busy at that time, register anyway and I’ll send you the recording — so your cat and cheese stories stay private forever 🙃

P.P.S: This is the same talk I'm doing for Tufts Alumni on August 27. Feel free to come to both!

Hello Reader, As we close out 2025, a year that asked a lot from all of us, I keep coming back to something Cheryl Strayed said on Adam Grant’s WorkLife podcast five years ago. It has quietly shaped how I run my business, make decisions, and navigate the hard days. The Truest Thing (and Why We Need It Now) Cheryl Strayed—author of Wild and the Dear Sugar column—talked about the difference between the true thing and the truer thing. The true thing is often the fear. The doubt. The swirl of “I’m...

Hi Reader, A few years ago, I was in a job that looked impressive from the outside—but felt completely wrong from the inside. After a big reorg at Nike, I’d been moved into a role that made no sense for my experience, my values, or frankly, who I was as a person. I felt invisible. Underutilized. Like I was slowly fading into someone else’s idea of “successful.” I also often felt physically sick. And yet… I stayed. Because it was Nike.Because it seemed secure.Because I was afraid to walk away...
